- Strong internal political dissent prevented distribution of technological advancements to fellow neighbor nations prior to or following signing of Coalition treaty (ENT Novel: The Good That Men Do)
Romulan terrorist attack 2155 disrupted the nation, destroying much of their technological base and sending them into a population crisis (ENT Novel: Kobayashi Maru)
