- Device which creates a rift between space and subspace
- Judging by the term "isolytic", likely functions through the formation of some sort of pocket of subspace in real space which causes some sort of dissolution of subspace
- Rift effect propagates towards other subspace fields or large masses or energy outputs at the speed of light (DS9: Ascendance)
- Warp fields formed overlapping the rift cause it to tear behind travel at equal speed
- Properly timed warp core breaches can seal the resulting rift, but subspace is still "damaged" as a result (Star Trek: Insurretion; DS9 Novel: Gamma: Original Sin)
- First recorded 2311 at Algeron; banned by treaty between the Federation, Klingon Empire, and Romulan Empire afterwards
- Later included in the general ban on subspace weapons in the Khitomer Accords
