- Federation forces comprised of hastily-assembled fleet of 40 starships
- Included at least one decommissioned ship, the USS Star League, as well as multiple partially-completed starships launched from Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, including the USS Melbourne
- One Galaxy-class vessel present at the battle per Vendetta, but conflicts with known list of initial seven Galaxy-class vessels
- Klingon forces requested to aid, but were unable to reach the battle site by the time of the battle (TNG: "The Best of Both Worlds")
- Request to Tholian Assembly for aid rejected (TNG Novel: Vendetta)
- 38 of the 40 starships destroyed
- Sole survivor the USS Ahwahnee; heavily damaged, but later rebuilt and put back into service
- USS Righteous believed destroyed; later revealed to have been sent ahead in time 10 years by Q intervention to 2377 Borg encounter
- Multiple captured Federation forces assimilated, dispatched back to Delta Quadrant via scout sphere (TNG Novel: Greater Than the Sum)
