Medical stasis

• Process by which an individual is placed in a state of suspended animation to preserve life during otherwise life-threatening conditions through minimizing or halting cellular metabolic processes
• Long-term stasis can be detrimental to life, as biological processes cannot generally be safely suspended indefinitely (S31 Novel: Abyss)
  • Maximum safe recorded stasis using Federation technology approximately one month (VOY: "One")
• Can also prevent deterioration or decomposition following death (DS9 Novel: Mission Gamma: Cathedral)
